Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich exchange negative attacks
Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich, the two front-runners for the Republican presidential nomination are mounting bitterly negative attacks against one another, while strenuously denying that they are doing so.
Mr Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, said this week he was refusing to say "outrageous things" that could be used by Barack Obamain a general election to "hang" Republican rivals such as Mr Gingrich.
Mr Gingrich, a former House Speaker, meanwhile said that he had a "determination to run a positive campaign" and would "disown" any staff member or funding group that waged negative attacks.
